The Town without Plastic

San Pedro La Laguna is a Mayan town at the shores of Lake Atitlán, in central Guatemala. As a drastic response to the plastic waste that is threatening the survival of the lake and the surrounding communities, the mayor established a no-plastic policy which has been able to reduce plastic usage drastically. The community has since gone back to using traditional materials, such as handmade napkins and plantain leafs instead of plastic bags, while the local fishermen clean the shores of the lake.
